{"id":2206,"date":"2026-10-15T23:00:38","date_gmt":"2026-10-15T23:00:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.prb.com.fj\/?p=2206"},"modified":"2026-10-15T23:00:38","modified_gmt":"2026-10-15T23:00:38","slug":"public-rental-board-launches-strategic-plan-2026-2030","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.prb.com.fj\/index.php\/2026\/10\/15\/public-rental-board-launches-strategic-plan-2026-2030\/","title":{"rendered":"Public Rental Board Launches Strategic Plan 2026-2030"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Public Rental Board (PRB) has officially launched its Strategic Plan 2026-2030, setting a clear direction for the organisation over the next five years and reaffirming its commitment to providing affordable, safe, and sustainable housing solutions for the people of Fiji.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Guided by the vision<strong>&#8220;To Provide Dignity in Housing,&#8221;<\/strong> the Strategic Plan outlines PRB&#8217;s renewed focus on delivering quality housing services, strengthening community wellbeing, enhancing financial sustainability, and building organisational capacity to meet future housing demands.<\/p>\n<h2>A Renewed Commitment to Communities<\/h2>\n<p>The Strategic Plan reflects extensive engagement with directors, management, staff, tenants, stakeholders, and government partners. The consultation process highlighted the need for PRB to move beyond simply managing housing estates and to embrace a more holistic role in building safe, vibrant, and sustainable communities where residents can thrive.<\/p>\n<p>As highlighted by Board Chairperson Asenaca Nawaqalevu, access to affordable housing remains fundamental to the wellbeing, stability, and economic security of individuals and families. The Strategic Plan reinforces PRB&#8217;s commitment to ensuring that housing remains accessible while promoting safety, sustainability, and community development.<\/p>\n<h2>Responding to Fiji&#8217;s Housing Needs<\/h2>\n<p>The Strategic Plan recognises the significant housing challenges facing Fiji, including increasing urbanisation, rising living costs, growing demand for affordable housing, climate change impacts, and the need for resilient housing solutions. It also acknowledges opportunities to expand social housing, strengthen public-private partnerships, and support pathways to homeownership.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, PRB manages 24 rental estates comprising 1,753 rental flats across Labasa, Lautoka, Levuka, Nadi, Nasinu, Savusavu, and Suva, continuing its mandate of providing affordable housing to low-income earners throughout the country.<\/p>\n<h2>Four Strategic Priority Areas<\/h2>\n<p>The Strategic Plan 2026-2030 is built around four key strategic priorities designed to strengthen PRB&#8217;s long-term impact and sustainability:<\/p>\n<h3>1. Property Development and Tenancy Management<\/h3>\n<p>PRB will focus on strengthening maintenance programs, expanding housing stock, supporting eligible tenants towards first-home ownership, improving tenancy management, enforcing tenancy agreements, and implementing digital property management systems.<\/p>\n<h3>2. Financial Sustainability<\/h3>\n<p>The Board will prioritise the effective management of government grants, prudent expenditure controls, asset maintenance, investment opportunities, and alternative funding mechanisms to support future housing developments.<\/p>\n<h3>3. Good Governance<\/h3>\n<p>PRB will continue to strengthen governance through enhanced risk management frameworks, stakeholder engagement, ethical leadership practices, transparency, and accountability.<\/p>\n<h3>4. Strategic Human Capital Management<\/h3>\n<p>Investing in people remains a key focus, with initiatives aimed at staff development, capacity building, workforce retention, policy improvements, and establishing PRB as an employer of choice.<\/p>\n<h2>Supporting National Development<\/h2>\n<p>The Strategic Plan aligns with the Fiji National Development Plan, the Housing Act, the National Housing Policy, and the Constitution of the Republic of Fiji. It also supports national efforts to increase homeownership opportunities, expand social housing provision, strengthen climate resilience, and improve housing accessibility across the country.<\/p>\n<p>Key long-term objectives include land acquisition for future housing developments, the construction of new housing units, strengthening accessible finance facilities, and supporting green building initiatives and climate-resilient housing designs.<\/p>\n<h2>Looking Ahead<\/h2>\n<p>The launch of the PRB Strategic Plan 2026-2030 marks an important milestone in the organisation&#8217;s journey towards creating stronger communities and improving the lives of tenants throughout Fiji.
