OFFICIAL OPENING OF LAGILAGI MULTIPURPOSE COURT MARKS NEW MILESTONE FOR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
July 24, 2025The Public Rental Board (PRB) marked a significant milestone today with the official opening of its new PRB Transportation Hub located at Naikawakawa, Raiwaqa. The purpose-built facility comprises a Taxi Base and Canteen and is designed to support transportation services while improving amenities for operators and the public it serves.
The official opening ceremony was conducted earlier today and was formally officiated by the Honourable Maciu Katamotu Nalumisa, Minister for Housing and Local Government, signifying the importance of the project in strengthening transport-related infrastructure and service delivery at the community level.
Strategically located at Naikawakawa, Raiwaqa, the PRB Transportation Hub is intended to serve the communities of Raiwaqa, Wailia, and the greater Suva district, providing a centralized and organized base for taxi operations and improved facilities for daily users of the transport network.
The Transportation Hub has been developed to provide an efficient and well-managed base for taxi operators while also incorporating a canteen facility that offers convenient services for drivers, commuters, and the surrounding community. The facility is expected to enhance operational efficiency, promote safety, and contribute to improved working conditions for transport operators.
PRB representatives noted that the development aligns with the Board’s mandate to optimise the use of its properties while supporting economic activity and essential services. The hub is also expected to contribute to improved traffic management through the centralisation of taxi operations within a dedicated location.
The inclusion of a canteen within the transportation hub reflects PRB’s commitment to developing integrated facilities that meet multiple community needs. The canteen is anticipated to support small-scale commercial activity while providing an accessible option for meals and refreshments for those utilising the hub on a daily basis.
The presence of the Honourable Maciu Katamotu Nalumisa at the official opening underscored the Government’s continued commitment to infrastructure development that supports public transport services, community wellbeing, and sustainable urban development.
In his address, the General Manager of the Public Rental Board conveyed sincere appreciation to all stakeholders who contributed to the successful delivery of the project. Special thanks were extended to the Ministry of Housing for its guidance and continued support, the Suva City Council for its cooperation and facilitation, as well as Energy Fiji Limited and the Water Authority of Fiji for their technical assistance and timely service provisions that enabled the commissioning of the facility.
The PRB Transportation Hub at Naikawakawa, Raiwaqa is now fully operational and will commence serving taxi operators and the general public with immediate effect. PRB acknowledged the collective efforts and collaboration of all partners involved in bringing the project to fruition.
